Particularly for organizations active on the global scene virtual teams have become a must for most companies. However, creating high performing virtual teams remains a big challenge. Understanding the roles and competencies of virtual leaders is therefore vital to virtual team effectiveness. According to our experience virtual leaders
- are self-motivated,
- are able to lead along “dotted lines”,
- are relationship builders,
- are able to promote trust and intimacy,
- have strong technical skills,
- are facilitators of social and work processes,
- are clear communicators,
- are confident decision makers, and
- act according to their virtual team charter.
Many leaders overestimate their abilities to lead virtually. What do you think? What is your point of view?
