On the second day of the F.A.Z. conference “New Perspectives and Innovative Applications of Artificial Intelligence – Impulses for Business, Science, and Society,” one speaker was particularly anticipated: Dr. Karsten Wildberger. STRIM was represented by Dr. Volker Mayer.
Since May 2025, Wildberger has served as Germany’s first Federal Minister for Digital and State Modernization. With a Ph.D. in physics, he brings broad experience from management consulting (Boston Consulting), the energy sector, and retail. His main priorities are modernizing the public sector, creating digital administrative structures, and promoting AI-driven innovation.
Key Takeaways from the F.A.Z. interview
In an interview with the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Wildberger emphasized that his ministry has worked digitally from the day one – using encrypted devices. Yet, in his view, technology alone is not enough. More importantly, success requires a shift in mindset. As he put it: “Digitalization begins in the mind, not with technology”.
Ultimately, the aim is to cut red tape and speed up administrative processes – for the benefit of both citizens and businesses..
Statements at the F.A.Z. AI Conference – July 3, 2025
During the conference, Wildberger made a clear point: “AI is not the future, but the present.” In his view, it could become the most transformative technology to date. But to realize its full potential, collaboration is essential—between business, science, and politics. Cross-sector cooperation is the key.
Accordingly, the German government sees itself not only as a regulator, but as a driver and enabler of AI innovation.
What this means for the STRIM Group
- Fast and lean consulting processes: STRIM designs its consulting services to be agile and efficient. Client benefit from short intake processes, clear and actionable recommendations, and flexible formats. These are tailored to each client´s needs and align with the “lean” regulatory approach Wildberger advocates.
- Hands-on support for AI compliance: STRIM helps organizations implementing the EU AI Regulation ISO/IEC 42001:2023-12. This includes targeted training, practical insights, and easy-to-understand guidance – supported by the new AI Service Desk.
- Focus on mindset and willingness to change: Since, according to Wildberger, the key to digitalization is not technology, but the right mindset, STRIM goes beyond technology. We offer executive coaching, transformation management, and cultural change support. The goal: to make AI adoption successful not just from a technical but also from an organizational perspective.
